George Dean was stabbed in a in a launderette in Lonsdale Road, Kilburn on 31 July 1997 at about 4.15pm.

He was attacked by a man whilst doing his weekly wash. The man's description was:

  • White, with a Mediterranean appearance.
  • 25-35 years old.
  • 5' 10 to 6' tall.
  • Dark brown hair tied back in a pony tail.
  • Wearing a grey t-shirt and grey jogging bottoms.

After stabbing George Dean the man ran off down Esmond Road and into Charteris Road where he disappeared.

George Dean had been seen talking to the man for some time in the launderette before he was attacked. The woman that saw them talking said that they had appeared quite normal, almost like father and son having a conversation. She had been in the launderette at the time on the phone when the man attacked  George Dean and when she looked over the man stared at her and she got a good look at him and a picture of him was later drawn by the police.

The attacked was described as motiveless.

The knife the man had had was described as having been over 3 inches long. It was thought that he had had blood on his hand and on the knife and possibly on his clothing.

The launderette had been on the corner of Lonsdale Road and Donaldson Road in Kilburn.

George Dean had served in the Engineering Corp of the army as a welder before he retired and had lived nearby in Honiton Road with his younger brother for nearly 20 years.

The launderette has now been replaced with a house.
